So I’ve had my eye on this for over 4 months now and the day I saw the trailer I loved everything about it. Jules Ostin (Anne Hathway) heads a successful start up and is absolutely brilliant at what she does bringing the company to where it is in just 18 months, targets for which were believed to be achieved in 5 years time, making her venture one of the most successful and sort after start ups around. Benjamin Whittaker is a 70 year old retired man who lost his wife and every day, tries a tonne of different things to fill the empty hole in his life. His life gets a new direction when a hot shot e commerce start up is hiring senior interns as a way of bringing in experience and more diversity to the existing team.

So what more do you want in a movie when you’ve got the STUNNING Hathway playing the strong but feminine protagonist and the charming De Niro being the man every girl/woman ever dreams about together, being directed by the so very talented Nancy Meyers? I’ll tell you, a good big bag of buttered popcorn, and you are set! 📷

The INTERN is fun, inspiring, fast, crisp and hilarious, and more importantly put together so beautifully that it surprises you a bold/off beat subject as this, is conveyed in the simplest manner possible. Yes, the movie promotes feminism and that is the core of the story but it is not the kind that is in your face, ‘I stand for feminism’ demonstrations type. It is present throughout the film making the viewer understand gradually the struggle, sacrifice, guilt and dreams of a woman who is courageous enough to do what she loves and believes in outside of being a good wife and mother.

Anne Hathway is one of my absolute favourite and is a delight to watch on the screen as I believe she is a flawless performer. Watching her portray such a well written & thought out character was extremely satisfying and she, as always, did complete justice to her character. Robert De Niro is the reason the film has a soul, a story to tell, as he brings in the old charm, chivalry & maturity you look for in man that is so irresistible that you can’t help but give in to such rare & admirable traits, especially when our generation has been deprived of such ‘gentlemen ways’. Also, it so so adorable to see a 70 year old man get excited for his first day of work, just as a boy would and watch him make his way into the hearts of the young boys and girls at work. 📷

Nancy Meyers, who’s ‘It’s Complicated’ is another film that I happen to love has directed and written the story of the Intern and according to me, has pulled another one of her best work as the movie delivers what the trailer promises. In a time where you have only Action and Sci-Fi genere taking over the maximum market share of the industry a feel good, real and inspiring film such as this is bound to make way in your heart and make your head think about how life can be all that you want it to be. You just have to be unapologetic for being yourself and not shy away or let guilt creep in and keep you away from doing or wanting what truly makes you happy and what you truly are.

It’s a long weekend and a movie such as The Intern does not come to the theatres often, let alone be released in India at the same time as the world wide release! Yes, it is brand new, fresh, classy, light, and so inspiring that missing this one would be something you would regret. So all you girls out there, grab your best bunch girl friends and head to your nearest movie theatre as trust me, this one is a treat. And the guys should not miss this one either, believing it’s a cliché chick flick, because the ‘oh so gorgeous and irresistibly cute’ Robert De Niro has taken up on himself to coach the boys of this generation in helping them to be more of a Man and give them very useful incites on how you can charm your way into a woman’s heart. Wouldn’t want to miss that now, would we? As whichever generation she belongs to, the old school way is the tried and tested route that will, in most times, catch her attention and sweep her off her feet. Which means yes, it is super necessary, important and speaks volumes about you if you are the kind that genuinely believes in dress, to impress and have that smooth, beautiful skin of yours on your face visible to the world all the time, which you tend to hide beneath that rugged look!
